GTA 6: Lucia Caminos, from Liberty City to Leonida Penitentiary

Lucia Caminos is one of the two playable protagonists of Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Jason Duval, and Rockstar Games gave her a surname on May 6, 2025, seventeen months after putting her on screen without one. In the first trailer, on December 4, 2023, she was only Lucia.

The official bio runs to five short paragraphs, and it opens on her father: “Lucia’s father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk.” Then comes the prison.

“Life has been coming at her swinging ever since. Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary. Sheer luck got her out. Lucia’s learned her lesson, only smart moves from here.”

What the fight was about, how long she served, what the sheer luck actually was: Rockstar says none of it.

Her age is not public either, and that is not specific to her: Rockstar has published no age and no date of birth for any of the nine named characters of GTA 6, Jason Duval included. Her page carries no date at all: neither the childhood in Liberty City nor the stretch inside the Leonida Penitentiary is placed in time.

One line of that bio is the only geographic bridge the studio has written between GTA 6 and an earlier game. “More than anything, Lucia wants the good life her mom has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City”, which places her childhood in the city of GTA IV. No character from a previous Grand Theft Auto has been announced as returning.

She is regularly called the first woman ever playable in the series, and that is slightly wrong. Dazed noted on August 26, 2026 that the 1997 original split its playable roster evenly between men and women. Lucia is the first fully written female lead of the main line, which is the claim that holds.

Her ankle monitor is the hinge of the plot. IGN, which questioned Rockstar North, reported on August 27, 2026 that the device is the key to how she and Jason end up working together, and that it keeps weighing on the campaign afterwards.

Rockstar’s page is thin, and reads better against what it leaves out.
