GTA 6 missions list: the three story sequences shown so far

With 73 days to go before November 19, 2026, Rockstar Games has described how GTA 6's story is cut into chapters. Its video of August 27, 2026 showed three of those story missions.

Rockstar Games has published no list of GTA 6 story missions, no mission count and no chapter name as of September 7, 2026. The only main missions shown are the three action sequences in the Extended Look of August 27, 2026, and none of them carries an official title. The studio has confirmed one thing about the structure: its Ultimate Edition page of June 24, 2026 says the story is broken into chapters.

Rockstar Games has published no list of Grand Theft Auto VI story missions, no mission count and no chapter name, with 73 days to go before November 19, 2026. The only main missions shown so far are the three action sequences in the Extended Look released on August 27, 2026, and not one of them has been given a title.

What the studio has described is the shape around them. Rob Nelson, head of development, told TroisCouleurs, the only French-language outlet invited to Rockstar North in July 2026, that “the game is set over chapters, which also help us figure out how the game is going to move.” The pivot missions get written first, he said, the “tentpole missions,” and one of them acts as the catalyst that moves Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos from one part of the game to the next.

Rockstar Games had already put the chapter structure in writing on its own Ultimate Edition page of June 24, 2026: “Ultimate Edition bonuses are threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter.” How many chapters there are has never been said, and the design method Nelson laid out does not answer it either.

The three missions on the record

The three action sequences in the August 27, 2026 video are not the start of a list. They come from different portions of the game, and each one rests on a rule of mission design the others do not.

The sequence What it shows about mission design
The apartment block and the police raid, in the opening The exit is not fixed: Jason and Lucia flee through an elderly neighbour’s flat, then out of the window
The Raul Bautista chase Lucia drives, Jason climbs into the back and fires an assault rifle: the split is decided in play
The Megamundo tower, the longest sequence The two leads are separated by several floors and fight through it apart

Those three lines come from the accounts published by Game Informer, IGN and KeenGamer on August 27 and 28, 2026. Rockstar Games named none of the three, and the full breakdown of the video turns up no other mission name.

Failing a mission no longer sends you back

ComicBook reported on August 28, 2026, after the preview embargo lifted, that mission failures are rarer in GTA 6: some missions branch when the player is caught or misses the objective, rather than restarting.

Which character you use is part of the same design. VGC wrote on August 27, 2026 that missions can be played as either lead, together or separately, and ComicBook added that the one left to the machine shoots and helps during a robbery. KeenGamer noted that missions offer several escape routes and let the player pick between driving and shooting, which lines up with the two scales of decision IGN described.

The one measured figure is 80 hours

GamesRadar+ reported on August 27, 2026, relaying the New York Times, that Rob Nelson finished his own playthrough in February 2026 in roughly 80 hours, main story plus optional goals with narrative ramifications. It is the only measurement in circulation, and it is not an official runtime.

That figure says nothing about how many missions sit inside it. IGN reported on August 27, 2026 that the flow of main missions stops at points until the player has raised a sum of money, and that how the money is raised is left open, from stealing and selling cars to robbing a bank: the optional work becomes the gate. The same account adds that Rockstar Games says it has blurred the line between open-world activity and main missions, and written the story to reward time spent in the world over a straight run of missions.
