GTA 6 fast travel: ride-hailing app and buses vs the GTA 5 cab

With 41 days to go before the November 19, 2026 launch, the GTA 6 previews describe a fast travel system you actually ride through. You book a car on the phone, and Jason and Lucia talk to the driver and fellow passengers on the way.

GTA 6 fast travel runs through a ride-hailing app on the in-game phone, according to IGN and Vice previews from August 27, 2026. You can talk to the driver for the whole trip, and to other passengers, strangers included, Kotaku reported. ComicBook added on August 28 that buses also work as fast travel. In GTA Online, skipping a cab ride cost $1,000 when the feature arrived on January 19, 2023.

Fast travel in Grand Theft Auto VI runs through a ride-hailing app on the phone, according to previews IGN and Vice published on August 27, 2026. You stay in the car for the ride: IGN reports you can chat with the driver for the whole ride, and Vice says Jason and Lucia can hold a full conversation with the other passenger.

Kotaku added the same day that rides are shared, and that you can talk to the other characters in the car, “even strangers.” The app sits alongside WAINK and Snapmatic on the in-game phone, which also covers why its name is spelled differently from one preview to the next.

ComicBook flagged a second option on August 28, 2026: buses also work as fast travel. It gave no routes and no fares.

How the GTA 5 cab compares

In GTA 5, fast travel meant a cab. On January 19, 2023, the trip skip came to GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Dexerto reported that day: you call Downtown Cab Co. from your phone, pick a set destination, and skip the drive. The cab “works the exact same in GTA Online as it does in the story mode,” the outlet wrote. Online, each skip cost $1,000, with a 48-minute wait before the next one.

What the August previews leave open: whether a GTA 6 ride can be skipped, what it costs, and where you can book one from. That gets settled on November 19, 2026, in the game itself.

The satellite map and the trailer 2 train

Vice noted on August 27, 2026 that the pause menu map drops the street plan of earlier games for far more detailed satellite-style imagery.

At 0:45 into the second trailer, released May 6, 2025, a blue and silver train runs on an elevated line above County Road 561, as GTA Wiki logs it. Rockstar Games hasn’t said whether you can board it, and no preview lists it as a way to fast travel.

For longer hauls, the August 27 Extended Look also shows a private jet and helicopters, per KeenGamer, covered in our GTA 6 planes and helicopters guide.
