GTA 6 phone: the apps shown so far, and what they do

The Grand Theft Auto VI phone is no longer an interface pinned to the bottom of the screen. It is an object in the world: the character pulls it out of a pocket while the camera moves in on the hand. IGN described it on August 27, 2026, after the presentation held at Rockstar North, and Rob Nelson put it in his own words to the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which ran its exclusive interview on August 28, 2026.

Unlike GTA 5, where it showed up on screen as a 2D graphic, the phone is now used as a physical object that genuinely exists in the world, handled with something close to the feel of a real smartphone. Famitsu runs in Japanese, so the English is GTA6 LIFE’s translation. Four apps have been described since August 27, 2026. Rockstar Games has never published the list.

WAINK is the best documented of the four, because Rob Nelson walked IGN through it himself on August 27, 2026. It scans a parked car before the theft.

For example, it tells me this car is locked, it’s got an alarm, and has no tracker.

The rest of that answer runs through the resale value at a specialty car fence or a Pay n’ Spray, the registration cost, then two tool examples: a key cloner for one car, a Slim Jim for another. WAINK is the reading instrument for tiered car theft, where the full answer is reproduced.

Snapmatic returns with one function removed. According to IGN on August 27, 2026, the player browses the feed and follows accounts, but no longer uploads photos. The reason sits in the story: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are on the run and leave no digital trail.

Famitsu asked Rob Nelson whether a player can upload the photos they take in game. His answer:

パートナーに写真を送ることはできますが、ふたりとも追われる身なので写真はアップロードできません。身を隠しているので、SNSには投稿できないんです。

Jason and Lucia can send each other photos, and uploading them stays impossible because both are wanted and in hiding. That exchange between the two characters appears in no write-up from August 27, 2026. The refusal to post had been described by the invited press until now: this time it comes from Rockstar North.

That feed also carries part of the narrative. Dazed, reporting from inside Rockstar and published on August 26, 2026, writes that the rap duo Real Dimez have a journey that “can be traced via in-game viral social media posts” rather than through cutscenes.

The third app handles fast travel, ride-hailing style, and lets the player talk to the driver for the length of the trip, as IGN reported on August 27, 2026. Its name is the unsettled part: IGN spells it “Ryde Me”, ComicBook spells it “RideMe” on August 28, 2026, and no screenshot published by Rockstar settles which is right.

The fourth did not come from the invited press. Australian creator TGG published his hands-on session on September 3, 2026, and a fitness app on the phone carries sleep tracking for both characters. Rob Nelson told him that tiredness feeds into how certain attributes regenerate. GamesRadar reported it on September 5, 2026, Insider Gaming on September 7.

One habit runs outside any app: text messages between Jason and Lucia float over the screen during cutscenes, which KeenGamer noted on August 28, 2026. ComicBook added the same day that a purchased car can be called in from an app.

What the phone does not do, 68 days out

No brokerage app appears in any Extended Look rundown. GTA 5, released on September 17, 2013, kept both of its exchanges, BAWSAQ and LCN Exchange, inside the phone browser under the “Money and Services” tab. Nothing comparable was shown on August 27, 2026, and the stock market question is still open.

Cheat codes sit in the same place. GTA IV, released in 2008, had players dial them like phone numbers on Niko Bellic’s handset, 362-555-0100 for health and armour; GTA 5 kept the idea with 1-999 numbers. Nothing has been announced for GTA 6 as of September 12, 2026, and the history of the codes shows a habit rather than a promise.

One claim is worth setting aside, because it travels fast. Several pages published on August 28, 2026, among them Beebom and allthings.how, state that social media activity feeds the wanted level. Neither attributes it to Rockstar, neither quotes anyone, and no preview write-up from August 27, 2026 says it.
