GTA 6 accessibility options: subtitles, aim assist, colorblind
Red Dead Redemption 2 keeps its Tap Assist in an Accessibility menu with five values, and GTA V calls its aim help Aim Settings. Both storefronts now carry accessibility tags a publisher fills in before November 19, 2026.

The documented baseline sits in Rockstar Games' own support pages: Red Dead Redemption 2 files Tap Assist under Settings, Controls, Accessibility with five values, and GTA V handles aiming under Aim Settings. For GTA 6, the answer will land on the store listings. PlayStation Store has offered more than 50 accessibility tags since April 3, 2023, and the Microsoft Store catalogue holds 24 plus six, each one declared by the publisher.
Rockstar Games files its player assists under Accessibility, and its own support pages show exactly where. The Red Dead Redemption 2 article updated on May 19, 2023 spells out the path: Settings, then Controls, then Accessibility. The option sitting there is Tap Assist, which turns a rapid button mash into a slower press or a hold, and it takes five values: Off, 2x, 3x, 4x or Hold. GTA V puts the same idea under a different label, Aim Settings, described in the March 8, 2024 support article as a Story Mode preference that travels with the player into GTA Online. How far that slider goes belongs to the difficulty question.
Subtitles are the documented weak spot. Ben Bayliss went through the GTA V menus on PS5 for Can I Play That? on March 16, 2022: “Subtitles are available, but there’s not option to increase their size.” The same deep dive logs a long list on the other side of the ledger: three control schemes in Standard, Alternative and Southpaw, separate volume sliders for effects, music and dialogue, and a Dialogue Boost that lifts speech above the mix.

That weighs more in GTA 6 than it did in 2013. Rockstar Mag read thirteen interface languages and thirteen subtitle languages off the Xbox listing on July 31, 2026, against a single voice track in English. Millions of players will read this game as much as they hear it, which puts subtitle legibility near the top of the settings that count. The language options cover that in full.
Both storefronts already have the form to fill in
Sony rolled out Accessibility Tags on PlayStation Store for PS5 in the week of April 3, 2023, announced by Hideaki Nishino. The catalogue holds “more than 50 Accessibility Tags available for game developers to choose from” across six families: visual, audio, subtitle and caption, control, gameplay, and online communication. On a game page, the Triangle button brings the list up.
Microsoft opened its own tags on November 16, 2021 with twenty entries. The reference updated on August 14, 2026 holds 24 Accessible Games Initiative tags, drawn from the Entertainment Software Association scheme, plus six older Xbox tags. Their names read like a checklist for this page: “Large & Clear Subtitles”, “Color Alternatives” for colorblind players, “Full Input Remapping”, “Playable without Rapid Button Presses”. Two conditions come with them. The publisher applies the tags through the Gaming Metadata module, and the game has to earn each one: Microsoft cites subtitles that are small or hard to read against the background as a case that fails the criteria. As of September 18, 2026, the Grand Theft Auto VI Xbox listing carries five Capabilities entries, among them Xbox cloud saves, plus the line “13 Supported languages”.
What the console handles on its own
PS5 offers Zoom, color correction, text size, mono audio for headphones, a screen reader that speaks the interface aloud, and full button assignment on the DualSense. Xbox Series X|S offers Narrator, Magnifier, high contrast, color filters, speech-to-text in chat, remapping through the Xbox Accessories app, and Copilot, which “links two controllers so you can use them as if they were one controller”. These sit above the game and apply whatever the options menu turns out to hold. The hardware choice itself is weighed on PS5 or Xbox Series X.
On July 19, 2022, Dexerto reported two Rockstar Dundee listings, an Associate Production Coordinator role and a Development Support role, asking candidates to run “accessibility evaluations and audits” and favoring experience in “captioning, STT/TTS, audio cues, and web accessibility”. Four years on, that job ad carries the weight of a job ad: a hiring intention, published by the studio itself.
Microsoft allows for a listing that fills in later: “Catalog Listings can be updated with newly supported accessibility features whenever they’re added.” So the GTA 6 tags are worth checking on November 19, 2026, and after.
