GTA 6 game share: yes, on one PS5 or one home Xbox per account
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 at $79.99 for the Standard Edition, and one copy can cover several profiles. Sony and Microsoft tie it to a single console per account: the PS5 with Console Sharing turned on, or the home Xbox.

Yes, on one console per account. A digital copy of GTA 6 plays on every profile of one console chosen by the buying account: the PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play turned on, one at a time, or the home Xbox, which can be switched five times a year. On any other console, only the buying account opens the game. A boxed code stays tied to the account that redeems it.
Yes, Grand Theft Auto VI can be game shared at home. A copy bought on a PlayStation or Xbox account plays on every profile of one console, the one that account designates: the PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play turned on, or the home Xbox. The game launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Standard Edition at $79.99 (how the two editions compare). Connection and subscription rules have their own guide.
| Rule | PS5 | Xbox Series |
|---|---|---|
| The sharing console | the one with Console Sharing and Offline Play on | the home Xbox |
| How many per account | one PS5 at a time | one home Xbox at a time |
| Who can play | “anyone who uses your PS5 console” | “friends and family,” even when you’re not signed in |
| Moving it | turn off the old one; remote deactivation once every 6 months | 5 switches in any one-year period |
Rules as written on Sony and Microsoft support pages, read September 29, 2026.
PS5: one designated console per account
Sony describes the feature as a way “to share your purchases and some subscription benefits with other players.” Once it is on, “anyone who uses your PS5 console” can play the games that account bought and downloaded, even with the console offline. It switches on by itself on the first PS5 the account signs in to, and lives under Settings, Users and Accounts, Other.
The limit sits in a single PlayStation support answer. Asked about sharing with a friend on another console, Sony replies: “No. You can only share your games and PlayStation Plus benefits with accounts on one PS5 console with Console Sharing and Offline Play activated.” An account can be used on several PS5 consoles, but Sony will only “activate one each.” On the others, its locked-game troubleshooting page (a padlock on the game tile) points back to the buyer: “Make sure you’re signed in to the account that you used to buy the game.”
Moving the feature means turning it off on the previous console, which “does not delete your data.” For a PS5 you can no longer reach, the only route is deactivating every console remotely, allowed once every six months.
Xbox: the home Xbox
Microsoft says that making a console your home Xbox “gives friends and family access to your games and content when you’re not signed in.” A console becomes the home Xbox automatically when an account is added without the “Lock it down” option. Each account gets one, and can switch it “up to five times in any one-year period. Customer support can’t offer additional switches.” For anyone signing in to several consoles, Microsoft recommends picking the one used most.
A boxed code follows the account
The retail box holds a download code rather than a disc, ready for the November 12, 2026 preload. According to Nintendo Life, the copy then stays with the account that redeemed the code: no lending, no resale. In a household, that account should be the one that designated the shared console (what a download code costs you).
The US PlayStation Store lists the game as “ESRB Rating Pending Mature 17+.” On PS5, a padlock covering the whole game image comes from parental controls, and only the Family Manager can lift it. Rockstar Games has not described what GTA 6 will ask of a second profile, whether a Rockstar Games account or a separate save; that gets checked on November 19, 2026.
