GTA 6 things to do: 20 activities outside story missions
Twenty categories of open world activity were counted in the Extended Look of August 27, 2026, from scuba diving to pool. Rockstar Games has never published a list of its own, and several of those twenty are only half playable.

Twenty categories of open world activity were counted in Grand Theft Auto VI’s Extended Look, from scuba diving to pool, base jumping to convenience store robbery. The tally belongs to GTA BOOM, published on August 27, 2026, the day the video aired. Rockstar itself has published none. No official figure exists for how many activities or minigames the game holds, and what follows is a press count taken off 26 minutes and 48 seconds of footage that carries no voiceover and no captions. What the studio said about side content fits in one answer Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, gave IGN on August 27, 2026.
“Because, yes, the video showcases three pretty action-heavy missions intercut with loads of other things you can do, but in just one little sequence we show a couple of robberies, which represents a huge amount of what you can and need to be doing in this game in between story missions.”
“Need to be doing” is carrying weight there. Both IGN and ComicBook report that progress through certain story missions requires raising a sum of money first, which turns the side content into a funding problem rather than a distraction.

That table mixes two things worth keeping apart. Some rows come from shots anyone can check, since the video went up free on YouTube at 9pm ET on August 27, 2026. Others come from the July 2026 preview sessions at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, where no journalist touched a controller and Nelson played on their behalf.

Three of the twenty rows were already there, in Rockstar’s own words, more than fifteen months before anyone saw them running. The Port Gellhorn entry on the “Only in Leonida” page, published May 6, 2025, ends on “Jump on a dirt bike and hold onto your wallet.” Mount Kalaga National Park “offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails.” The Leonida Keys open with “The dress code is casual, the bars are loaded.”
The rest was not there. No pool, no basketball, no gym, no shooting range, and none of the social media layer Rockstar only described to Dazed on August 26, 2026. A promise of hunting and fishing in a national park is a line the series has printed before. A gym membership with a prompt-based workout is not.
What exists without being properly playable
Four items are worth pulling out of the list, because they sit in the game without being an activity in their own right.
The tennis court first. ComicBook reports that you can hit the ball, but that no full match is playable. The court exists, the sport does not, and the difference matters to anyone reading the list as a menu.
Snapmatic next. The photo app returns, except you can no longer post your own shots, according to IGN’s 69-detail piece of August 27, 2026. The reason given is narrative: Jason and Lucia are on the run and will not leave a digital trail. You browse, you follow accounts, you watch viral clips, and that is the extent of it.
Buying property comes third. ComicBook reports it is not planned for the single player campaign, for that same reason, though Rockstar has not stated the limit itself: it comes from the July 2026 previews, not from the studio. The garage is real, and its capacity caps how many personal vehicles the pair can keep at once.
Then the zoo, which Dexerto files under activities. You visit it, you learn about the animals, and studying an animal feeds a compendium carried straight over from Red Dead Redemption 2.
What any of it feeds
Two separate systems record what the player does, and Nelson was careful with IGN to say they do not feed on the same things. One is the relationship between the two characters, which climbs with time spent together: exploring, pool, mini golf, kayaking, or robbing stores and banks as a pair. Small gestures count in that second system. Petting a dog raises a positive icon, binning litter properly helps the profile, killing an animal or shooting a corpse damages it, according to Push Square on August 27, 2026. What a mission demands does not necessarily move the needle: “If you’re doing things on mission that you are required to do, that’s all fair game,” Nelson told eXputer.
Weight training is the only pastime on the list that changes the character himself. A gym membership is required, the session takes the form of prompts to hit, and missing them costs stamina. Rockstar told Dazed on August 26, 2026 that the body follows the lifestyle: the gym builds muscle, overeating adds weight, skipped nights show on the face. The visual swing stays deliberately milder than San Andreas.
Store robberies sit apart. They are the one plainly criminal entry among the twenty, and the only one that puts a wanted level on the pair, with the consequences set out in our guides to heists and to the police system.
One unknown remains for anyone hoping to plan a day in Leonida. Rockstar has published no map of the game, not on May 6, 2025 with “Only in Leonida”, not on August 27, 2026 with the Extended Look, which leaves every one of these twenty categories pinned to nothing more precise than the region the video happened to show it in.
