GTA 6 things to do: 20 activities outside story missions

Twenty categories of open world activity were counted in Grand Theft Auto VI’s Extended Look, from scuba diving to pool, base jumping to convenience store robbery. The tally belongs to GTA BOOM, published on August 27, 2026, the day the video aired. Rockstar has published none of its own, and no official figure exists for how many activities the game holds. What follows is a press count taken off 26 minutes and 48 seconds of footage.

The studio said one thing about side content, through Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, to IGN on August 27, 2026.

“Because, yes, the video showcases three pretty action-heavy missions intercut with loads of other things you can do, but in just one little sequence we show a couple of robberies, which represents a huge amount of what you can and need to be doing in this game in between story missions.”

“Need to be doing” carries the weight there. IGN and ComicBook both report that certain story missions only open once the player has raised a sum of money first.

The table mixes two sources: shots anyone can check, the video having been free on YouTube since 9pm ET on August 27, 2026, and the July 2026 previews at Rockstar North, where no journalist touched a controller.

Four entries that are not really activities

The tennis court exists and you can hit the ball, but no full match is playable, ComicBook reports. Snapmatic returns without the posting, according to IGN’s 69-detail piece of August 27, 2026: you browse, you follow accounts, you watch viral clips, and that is the extent of it, Jason and Lucia being on the run. Buying property is not planned for the single player campaign either, ComicBook again, though Rockstar has not stated that limit itself: it comes from the July 2026 previews. Then the zoo, which Dexerto files under activities: studying an animal there feeds a compendium carried over from Red Dead Redemption 2.

What any of it feeds

The twenty entries feed two systems Rob Nelson keeps apart when he talks to IGN. The relationship between Jason and Lucia climbs with time spent together, at pool, in a kayak, or robbing stores as a pair. The Criminal Profile tracks conduct over the long run: petting a dog raises a positive icon, according to Push Square on August 27, 2026.

Weight training is the one entry of the twenty that changes the character himself. Missing the prompts in a session costs stamina, and Rockstar told Dazed on August 26, 2026 that the body follows the lifestyle: the gym builds muscle, overeating adds weight, skipped nights show on the face. The swing stays milder than San Andreas. Store robberies are the one entry of the twenty that puts a wanted level on the pair.

Fishing and hunting share a row in the count, not a rule. Rob Nelson, talking to YouTuber TGG on September 3, 2026 in an interview reported by GameSpot, made hunting one of the ways to earn money in the game, unlocked through a friend of Jason’s, a character TGG says has appeared in no footage released to date. Fishing pays nothing at all. The catch goes straight back in the water. “It didn’t fit this game,” Nelson said, tying the activity to challenges and collectibles instead, which our fishing guide goes through in full.

Rockstar has still published no map of the game, which leaves every one of these twenty categories pinned to nothing more precise than the region the video happened to show it in.
