GTA 6 streaming deal report denied by Xbox strategy chief
With 43 days to go, Xbox has stepped in on a story that ran all day. Chief strategy officer Matthew Ball has denied The Verge's report that Microsoft secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6.
: The Verge corrected its story and still reports a non-exclusive streaming deal, which it reads as Xbox console only, and Heise adds the game is sold separately.

Xbox denies it. Overnight from October 6 to 7, 2026, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball wrote on X that GTA 6 launches on Xbox on November 19, 2026, but 'will not be streaming exclusively or to PC,' Kotaku reports. The Verge, which reported exclusivity on October 6, has corrected its story and still reports a non-exclusive Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming deal. Playing at launch takes a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S.
Xbox has denied that it secured exclusive streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto VI. Chief strategy officer Matthew Ball posted on X that the game launches on Xbox on November 19, 2026, but will stream neither exclusively nor to PC, Kotaku reports in an update to its story made overnight from October 6 to 7, 2026. His post contradicts The Verge’s report from a few hours earlier.
“We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
This story first ran on October 6, 2026, based on The Verge’s report. It said Xbox Cloud Gaming would be the only service streaming the game at launch, opening a route in for PC players. It was corrected on October 7, 2026, after Ball’s denial.
The Verge corrected its report on October 6, 2026 but kept the deal: Xbox Cloud Gaming can still stream GTA 6 at launch, just not exclusively. Tom Warren reads Ball’s post as a deal for Xbox console streaming only, which may mean the web browsers and apps that usually reach the service won’t stream the game. Heise Online added on October 7, 2026 that GTA 6 must be bought separately, and that from November Game Pass caps streaming at 15 hours a month on Ultimate, 10 on Premium and 5 on Essential.
The Verge’s Tom Warren cited sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans. His report followed an employee all-hands where Xbox CEO Asha Sharma promised something around GTA 6 that “no other platform holder is doing.” Ball’s post leaves open what she meant.
For PC players, that puts things back where they stood before October 6. Rockstar Games still has not announced a PC version of GTA 6, and its product page lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Playing on November 19, 2026 means owning one of those two consoles.
On consoles, Sony keeps the marketing edge. PlayStation holds the game’s marketing rights, per IGN, and Rockstar’s page still read “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” on October 2, 2026, covered in our PS5 or Xbox comparison.
