GTA 6 on Xbox Series S: out November 19 on the $499.99 console
Xbox Series S is an official launch platform for Grand Theft Auto VI, covered by the 'Xbox Series X|S' of Rockstar's support page. The game arrives there on November 19, 2026, 68 days from now, on the $499.99 console.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Xbox Series S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar's support page, updated on June 24, 2026, lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and nothing more has been published about the Series S build: no footage, no resolution, no graphics mode and no install size. The console itself went from $399.99 to $499.99 on August 1, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto VI does launch on Xbox Series S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar’s support page, updated on June 24, 2026, names only “PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S”. The Series S sits inside that “X|S”, and that is close to the whole public record for it.
Everything a buyer would want next is missing. The Microsoft Store listing, checked on August 28, 2026, carries the capability “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” with no 4K badge, no ray tracing line and no install size. Rockstar’s own product page adds a single line to its two platform pills, “Plays Best On PlayStation 5”, and that is the only console it ever names.
No footage of GTA 6 running on any Xbox has been released. The Extended Look of August 27, 2026 was “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5”, in Sony’s wording. Digital Foundry measured that capture on August 28, 2026: roughly 1440p of internal rendering resolution on a base PS5, pushed to 4K by a spatial upscale, an enlargement with no temporal reconstruction. None of it describes the Series S build.
The same analysis notes an unusual density of characters on the beaches and in the nightclubs. That is the workload the smallest console in the family has to carry.

4 teraflops against 12, with the same world to draw
| Console | Graphics | Memory | US list price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series S 512 GB | about 4 TFLOPs | 10 GB, roughly 8 for the game | $499.99 since August 1, 2026 |
| Series X with disc drive | about 12.15 TFLOPs | 16 GB | $799.99 since August 1, 2026 |
| PlayStation 5 with disc drive | about 10.28 TFLOPs | 16 GB | $649.99 since April 2, 2026 |
The Series S runs the same eight Zen 2 cores as the bigger machines. Graphics and memory are where it falls away, according to the specifications published on August 3 and August 21, 2026.
Digital Foundry’s John Linneman drew a conclusion from that back on August 1, 2024: “So, we could assume maybe 720p target Series S.” That reading was based on the first trailer, two years before any gameplay was published, and nobody has checked it since. The PS5 and Series X comparison covers the two machines Rockstar has actually discussed.
Frame rate is the one area with a public figure, and it covers every console at once. Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, told a creator hosted in Edinburgh that the console builds were running at 30 frames per second during this phase of development. VGC reported it on August 28, 2026. Rockstar published nothing, and how that claim travelled is worth reading before anyone treats it as an announcement.
One rumour did target the Series S specifically: the Polish podcast Rock and Borys claimed on June 29, 2026, on a single source, that the machine would stay locked to 30 fps while PS5 and Series X got two graphics modes. Nobody has confirmed it since.
$499.99 for the console, and a full download either way
The price moved. Microsoft raised Xbox prices on August 1, 2026: the Series S 512 GB went from $399.99 to $499.99 and the 1 TB model to $599.99. The BBC put the British increase at roughly 43 percent on the base model, from £300 to £430.
Microsoft made the connection itself. Its June 25, 2026 announcement names Grand Theft Auto VI among the titles that keep the Series S “the lowest-cost way for console players to enjoy the biggest hits this year”. So the pitch runs one way only: Microsoft names GTA 6, Rockstar never names the Series S.
Then there is the disc, or the lack of one. “A disc will not be included in the box”, Rockstar states: the box holds a download code, so every buyer pulls the full game over the network from preload on November 12, 2026. On a 512 GB Series S, Stealthy Gaming put the usable space at about 364 GB on June 29, 2026. Rockstar has published no install size for any platform, so storage planning still means reasoning from past games.
