Release date and calendar

When does GTA 6 come out?

Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar published the date on November 6, 2025. (Level 1, Newswire)

Does the date still hold after the August leaks?

Yes. On August 26, 2026 Rockstar asked that “everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19,” and called it “nearly there!”. (Level 1)

How many times has the game been delayed?

Twice. “Coming 2025” in December 2023, then May 26, 2026 announced on May 2, 2025, then November 19, 2026 announced on November 6, 2025, a further 177 days. (Level 1, Newswire)

What time does it unlock?

When does preload start?

November 12, 2026, seven days before launch, digital and boxed alike. (Level 1)

Is a third trailer coming?

No date for one, and none for review embargoes. The last scheduled event was the Extended Look of August 27, 2026. (Level 1 by absence)

Platforms

Which machines is it coming to?

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no others. (Level 1, Rockstar Games Support)

Is there a PS4 or Xbox One version?

No. Sony writes that the game “will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles.” (Level 1, PlayStation.com)

Will there be a PC version?

None has been announced: no date, no Steam page. Previous console-to-PC gaps: 7 months and 3 days (GTA IV), 18 months and 28 days (GTA V), 12 months and 10 days (Red Dead Redemption 2). (Level 1 by absence)

What about Nintendo Switch 2?

Nothing. No Rockstar or Take-Two document mentions the machine. (Level 1 by absence)

Does the PS5 Pro add anything?

The PlayStation listing carries a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” badge, with no figure specific to the PS5 Pro published: no resolution, no frame rate, no graphics mode. (Level 1)

Performance

Does GTA 6 run at 60 frames per second?

Not at launch. Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, told creators in Edinburgh in late August 2026 that consoles target 30 frames per second, and Rockstar has published nothing on the subject. Who said what. (Level 3, VGC)

Will a performance mode arrive later?

Nelson said he must check with the technical team before knowing whether a 60 frames per second option happens at all. Red Dead Redemption 2 never got one. (Level 3, VGC)

How good does it actually look?

Oliver Mackenzie of Digital Foundry calls it “the most impressive example of real-time game rendering,” and Richard Leadbetter judged it “singular across the entire console generation.” Footage from a standard PS5. (Level 2)

How much storage should I set aside?

No install size has been published. The box holds a download code and nothing else, so every buyer downloads the whole game. (Level 1 by absence)

How much does GTA 6 cost?

$79.99 for the Standard, $99.99 for the Ultimate, with no Collector’s or Deluxe tier. Rockstar support sums the base version up in one line: “The Grand Theft Auto VI: Standard Edition includes the game.” (Level 1, Take-Two)

What is inside the Ultimate?

What does it cost outside the United States?

Do I have to pre-order for the Vintage Vice City Pack?

No. Any purchase made before November 20, 2026 qualifies. The pack is built around a 1955 Vapid Stanier and its garage, plus outfits, hairstyles and an exclusive weapon finish. (Level 1)

How many pre-orders have there been?

No figure. On August 7, 2026 Strauss Zelnick went no further than an “exceptional start.” The 89 percent Ultimate share going around rests on no Take-Two document. (Level 1)

The world, the story and the cast

Where is the game set?

Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, a version of Florida. Six locations named: Vice City, Grassrivers, Leonida Keys, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga National Park and Port Gellhorn. (Levels 1 and 2)

How big is the map?

Twice GTA 5 and three times Red Dead Redemption 2, according to Rob Nelson. Vice City alone is said to be twice Los Santos, and no square mileage has been published. (Level 3)

Who do you play as?

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, both. Lucia is the first non-optional female protagonist in the series. (Level 2)

What is the official pitch?

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.

Which supporting characters are named?

Cal Hampton, Jason’s paranoid friend. Boobie Ike, who runs a small empire in Vice City. Dre’Quan Priest, of Only Raw Records. Raul Bautista, a bank robber. Brian Heder, a trafficker and Jason’s landlord. (Level 2)

Who voices Jason and Lucia?

No cast has been made official, and the names circulating for months rest on no verifiable source. (Level 1 by absence)

How long is the story?

About 80 hours, the length of Rob Nelson’s own playthrough in February 2026, covering the main story plus “some optional goals with narrative ramifications.” That phrasing is the New York Times’, not Rockstar’s. (Level 2, GamesRadar+)

What languages does it support?

Thirteen on the Rockstar Store, among them English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese. The page does not say which are dubbed and which are subtitled. (Level 1)

What you can do in the game

Can you switch characters like in GTA 5?

Yes, instantly when Jason and Lucia are together. Missions can be played as either one, or both. (Level 2, VGC)

Is the six-star wanted level back?

Yes, six stars appear on screen during the Extended Look. A circle on the map marks the search zone instead of every officer, and changing masks or clothes brings it down. (Level 2, Engadget)

Can you still steal any car?

No. Rob Nelson: “Previously, you could just press triangle to automatically hotwire and steal any vehicle.” Some models now need a key cloner, others a GPS that caps your speed. Carjacking a driver still works. (Level 3, IGN)

Is there a karma system?

A Criminal Profile shifts with how you play. Nelson: “It’s when you go beyond what is necessary on a consistent basis, or you do completely unnecessary stuff consistently, that you may start to sway your Criminal Profile in a certain direction.” (Level 3, Dexerto)

What is there to do outside missions?

Basketball, dirt bike and car races, base jumping, kayaking, airboats through the swamps, pool, mini golf, a zoo, a shooting range, and a gym that needs a membership. (Level 2, Dexerto)

Online, real money and ratings

Is there a multiplayer mode?

None has been announced. Take-Two calls the game “a single-player experience,” Sony repeats it word for word, and no successor to GTA Online has a date. (Level 1)

Are there microtransactions?

Not in single player. Asked in Edinburgh by Kinda Funny Games, Rob Nelson said there is no real-money monetisation in the game. (Level 3)

Did Rockstar use generative AI?

No. Asked directly by the same interviewers, Rob Nelson answered “No.” (Level 3)

What is the ESRB rating?

There isn’t one yet. The ESRB public database returned no entry on August 28, 2026, the US PlayStation Store serves ESRB_RP17 for “Rating Pending Mature 17+,” and Take-Two’s June 2026 release said “not yet rated.” (Level 1)

Is cross-play planned between PS5 and Xbox?

Nothing announced, which follows from there being no online mode either. (Level 1 by absence)

The leaks and the Extended Look

How long is the Extended Look?

26 minutes and 48 seconds. It aired on Netflix on August 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. ET and reached YouTube six hours later. Published durations that day ranged from 26 minutes to more than 30. (Level 1, timed in house)

Did the August leaks change anything?

Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has said the leaks affected the schedule or the content. The August 26, 2026 statement calls them “heartbreaking for our team” and repeats the November 19 date. (Level 1)

A GTA 6 demo is going around. Is it real?

No. Fake sites reusing Rockstar’s identity promise a demo or early access and install an infostealer that Malwarebytes found capable of reading saved browser passwords, cookies and sessions. (Level 2, Engadget)
