GTA 6 stock market: how GTA 5's BAWSAQ and LCN exchanges worked
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, 76 days after this check. The claim that its stock market returns dates back to a 2021 insider post, and GTA 5's BAWSAQ and LCN exchanges show how that system worked.

No stock market has been announced for GTA 6 as of September 4, 2026. Neither the August 27, 2026 Extended Look nor any Rockstar Games interview mentions an exchange, a broker or a share. GTA 5 had two of them, BAWSAQ and LCN, but BAWSAQ ran on the Rockstar Games Social Club, whose site went dark on July 16, 2025. The claim that trading returns traces back to insider Tom Henderson, in 2021, who now says the idea was dropped.
Is there a stock market in GTA 6?
Rockstar Games has never mentioned a stock market in GTA 6. Checked on September 4, 2026: the word appears in neither of the two most exhaustive breakdowns of the August 27, 2026 Extended Look, published by VGC and ComicBook, nor in the interviews the studio gave to the press it hosted at Rockstar North in July 2026. Grand Theft Auto VI ships on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, 76 days from now, and the question has no official answer.
The phone apps identified so far include no trading app. WAINK scans vehicles, Ryde Me hails a ride, Snapmatic shows the in-game social feed, and Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, walked IGN through each of them on August 27, 2026.
How did BAWSAQ and LCN work in GTA 5?
GTA 5 shipped on September 17, 2013 with two playable exchanges. LCN Exchange responded to single-player story missions: GTA BOOM documents how FlyUS, Vangelico and Cluckin’ Bell moved after specific campaign events, and notes that LCN prices refresh every 45 seconds. BAWSAQ ran on the player base instead. “BAWSAQ stocks are directly influenced by the GTA Online community,” Screen Rant wrote on August 10, 2020.
Both were reached from the character’s phone browser or a laptop, through the Internet icon and the Money and Services tab. The profit itself came mostly from five jobs Lester handed to Franklin. Push Square puts it plainly: “There are 5 Stock Market Assassination Missions in GTA 5, all issued to Franklin by Lester.”
| Mission | Stocks to play | Reported return |
|---|---|---|
| The Hotel Assassination | Betta Pharmaceuticals, then Bilkinton Research | about 50%, then about 100% |
| The Multi Target Assassination | Debonaire, then Redwood Cigarettes | about 60%, then about 300% |
| The Vice Assassination | Fruit Computers, then Facade | about 50%, then about 35% |
| The Bus Assassination | Vapid | about 100% |
| The Construction Assassination | Gold Coast | about 75% |
Those returns come from a Push Square guide updated on January 6, 2025, and GTA BOOM was still updating its own on July 22, 2026, thirteen years after release. Timing mattered just as much: GameRant reports that LCN holdings peak 24 in-game hours after the hit, at the point where BAWSAQ holdings have already started sliding.
Could BAWSAQ come back in GTA 6?
BAWSAQ never worked offline. GameRant writes: “In order to access BAWSAQ, players must make sure that they are connected to the Rockstar Games Social Club.” Without that connection, the game returned “This market is down for maintenance. Please try again later.”
That service is gone. On July 16, 2025, Screen Rant found the Rockstar Games Social Club site had been pulled, with “the URL now redirecting to Rockstar’s regular website homepage,” and noted that “Rockstar itself hasn’t officially commented on the change yet.” Insider Gaming listed “accessing the GTA Online stock market” among the features lost that same day, after thirteen years of service.
So the community half of the idea cannot return unchanged. The infrastructure that carried it was dismantled sixteen months before GTA 6 ships, and Rockstar has announced no replacement service.
Where did the claim that BAWSAQ is returning come from?
Plenty of pages still present BAWSAQ and LCN as settled features of GTA 6, some of them promising a live price tracker at launch. The trail always ends at the same place. In 2021, insider Tom Henderson said GTA 6 would carry a fictional cryptocurrency, and GTA BOOM summarises the trading half of that claim as “a stock market feature would return with a broker for different digital currencies.”
Henderson has since walked it back. Asked about it later, he answered that he believes the idea was abandoned a long time ago, GTA BOOM reported on February 26, 2026 in a piece updated on August 26. Rockstar Games has neither backed nor denied any of it. A five-year-old insider claim disowned by the person who made it is not an announced feature.
How do you make money in GTA 6 without a stock market?
Money carries more weight than in earlier entries. Progress through some main missions requires raising a sum, and Rockstar balances payouts to push players across several income streams, according to the 64-detail roundup ComicBook published on August 28, 2026. Loot turns into cash at fences who specialise by goods, jewellery on one side, cars on the other, as our fencing guide sets out.

Two known limits close the other doors. Buying houses is not planned in single-player, the reason given to previews being that Jason and Lucia are on the run. And there are no microtransactions at launch and no way to buy in-game money with real money, an answer Rob Nelson gave Andy Cortez and Greg Miller of Kinda Funny on August 27, 2026. The single-player economy runs on theft, robbery and resale: robbery targets and ways to make money cover the ground.
One unknown weighs more than the rest. Rockstar has said nothing about an online mode and presents GTA 6 as a single-player experience on November 19, 2026, which our multiplayer explainer lays out. A community-driven exchange needs players connected together. Until that mode exists, any GTA 6 stock market could only be a single-player one, in the shape of LCN, moved by story missions rather than by other players.
