GTA 6 fake leaks: five questions, five documented hoaxes
Rockstar Games has named zero actors and published zero unlock times, yet both circulate as fact. Five questions sort a real leak from a fake, and each one is tested here against a hoax that is already dated and documented.

Five questions settle almost every fake circulating about Grand Theft Auto VI, and none of them needs a technical skill. They cover the official Rockstar Games page, who is writing “confirmed”, what the proof is made of, which studio habit the claim breaks, and whether it survives its own arithmetic. Each one is tested below on a hoax with a date on it.
The baseline they get held against is five lines long. Release is November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There are two editions, Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, the second digital only. Take-Two’s pre-order announcement of June 24, 2026 names four places to buy and no others: PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store, and physical retailers. Rockstar has named no actor, for any role, on any date, and has never published an unlock time, an install size, a PC version or a Collector’s Edition.
A post announcing a Collector’s Edition, a PC date, a worldwide unlock time, a download size or a credited actor contradicts a level 1 source. That is not a rumour to weigh up. It is a fake.
Does Rockstar have a page for it?
Three addresses carry official information, and only three: the Newswire, the product page, and Rockstar Games Support. A major announcement missing from all three is not an announcement.
On May 14, 2026, Guru3D published a regional unlock schedule presented as revealed by Rockstar. Nothing on the Newswire, that day or since. Two other schedules circulate alongside it, one at midnight local time per zone, another at 5am UTC for the whole planet. The only clock time Take-Two has ever published is the pre-load window opening on November 12, 2026, and the three versions are laid out in our release date and unlock time guide.
Who is saying “confirmed”?
The most common slip does not come from a forum. It comes from the press. Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, gave rough comparisons to the YouTuber TGG, among them a three to one ratio against the map of Red Dead Redemption 2. Kotaku ran the comparison on August 27, 2026, and the next day Vice ran a headline crediting Rockstar with confirming the size of the leaked map. No statement from the studio exists on that point, and the studio has never commented on the document circulated on August 18, 2026. We follow the whole chain in our piece on the map size claim.
The cartoon version of the same error sits on GTABase: “Rockstar has confirmed plans to continue expanding GTA 6’s world post-launch by adding new cities and missions over time.” No official 2025 or 2026 source carries that announcement. Compare it with The Game Post, publishing the leaked map on August 19, 2026 with a warning attached: “That said, the source remains unverified.” Same material, opposite handling.
A trusted outlet can seed a fake too. Engadget’s Extended Look breakdown describes “the Leonida Keys (including fake Miami)”, which puts the fictional Miami in the Keys. Vice City is the fictional Miami. An error carried by a level 2 outlet travels further than a forum rumour, because everyone downstream assumes the checking was already done.
Is the proof a database anyone can edit?
Dylan Rourke has been named as the voice of Jason Duval for more than a year. The entire case for it is a credit on an IMDb page, which reappeared on the listing for the Extended Look after August 27, 2026, and which fans read as validation.
SVG put it plainly on August 28, 2026: “IMDb is user-edited, and unlike Wikipedia, it doesn’t require any sort of sourcing or citations whatsoever. So this information on IMDb doesn’t mean much.” A casting agency profile falls under the same rule, and so does a community wiki entry. Rockstar has credited nobody, which leaves the count of officially named actors at zero.
Does it break a constant studio habit?
Rockstar does not credit its actors before release, and the Extended Look of August 27, 2026 held the line: 26 minutes and 48 seconds, no cast credits at the end. The studio has also shipped its games with English voice acting only for more than fifteen years, a habit we go through in our guide to the language options. A claim that breaks either habit needs extraordinary proof, not a screenshot.
The fake actress account has now run twice in three years. In December 2023, an Instagram account under the name “Lucia Echeverria” presented itself as the performer behind Lucia, days after the December 4 trailer; GamingBible identified it as model Jaelani Jade, with no connection to Rockstar. On August 28, 2026, Vice wrote that an account attributed to Manni L. Perez is fake and run by someone impersonating her, while EGW News published a piece the same day headlined on an official confirmation from the actress. Neither Rockstar nor the performer on a verified channel has established anything.
Anonymous sources work the same way. Three X accounts presented themselves as CyberLeek, the presumed origin of the August 2026 leaks, while the later videos carried a watermark that left no room: “CYBERLEEK DOES NOT HAVE TWITTER”. The genuine account has never been publicly identified, on any network.
Does the claim survive its own arithmetic?
The May 2026 schedule falls apart with no outside source at all. It gives 8am in the United Kingdom and 1pm in the United States for an unlock presented as a single worldwide moment. Those two clock readings are not the same instant. A well-built fake rarely survives an addition.
The 113 gigabyte file passed around as a playable build has the same flaw. The analyses relayed by Tom’s Hardware in August 2026 describe a file padded to more than 99.99 percent with zeroes, wrapped around roughly 50 kilobytes of malware. The padding does one job, which is to make the size believable. Rockstar has published no install size for GTA VI on any platform, so nobody has a legitimate figure to weigh such a file against.

Scam campaigns run on the calendar of the real announcements. The fake sites described by Malwarebytes copied promotional material from the Extended Look of August 27, 2026, and the fake installer surfaced on August 19, the day after the first leak. The day after Rockstar publishes anything is the day to look twice. Then there is the case where the file has already been opened. The installer spotted on August 19, 2026 is the Vidar credential stealer, which targets 19 browsers, among them Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and digs through Thunderbird profiles as well. Malwarebytes warns that removal is not the end of it: “An infostealer doesn’t need to remain on your computer to cause lasting damage”. Session cookies leave with the saved passwords, which is why those passwords have to change and every active session has to be signed out, deleted file or not.
