GTA 6 has no free first-person camera at launch, creator says

GTA V shipped without a first-person mode in 2013, and Rockstar added it 427 days later. A creator flown to Edinburgh says GTA 6 will launch in the same position on November 19, 2026.

GTA 6 would not let players switch freely to a first-person camera when it launches on November 19, 2026. Davy Jones, the Brazilian creator hosted at Rockstar North before the Extended Look, said so in comments reported on August 29, 2026, and eXputer wrote the same thing on August 28. Aiming with some weapons and using binoculars would keep the first-person view. Rockstar Games has published nothing about its camera.

Grand Theft Auto VI would ship on November 19, 2026 without a free first-person camera. Davy Jones, the Brazilian creator hosted at Rockstar North in Edinburgh before the Extended Look went out, said so in comments reported by GinjFo on August 29, 2026. Driving, exploring, shooting and moving on foot would all stay behind Jason and Lucia.

The reason he gives is animation. Rockstar built GTA 6 around its third-person camera, according to Jones, and put the work into the quantity and quality of its two leads’ animations rather than into making the whole game read from two perspectives. Rockstar told The New York Times on August 27, 2026 that it had passed 600,000 animations, twice the Red Dead Redemption 2 total.

eXputer had already written the same thing on August 28, 2026, the day after the Extended Look: no full first-person mode at launch, and a game built for third person so the animation work stays visible. One account comes out of the Edinburgh visit, the other out of the August 27 preview wave.

First person would not vanish entirely. Jones points to aiming with certain weapons and to binoculars, two actions that would still put the camera behind the character’s eyes.

Rockstar has done this before

GTA V came out on September 17, 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360 with no first-person mode. Rockstar added one on November 18, 2014 with the PS4 and Xbox One versions, 427 days later, and on PC in 2015. A mode missing at launch is not a mode dropped, though Rockstar has never said it would repeat the exercise.

Rockstar Games has published nothing about the GTA 6 camera, and nothing about a mode arriving after release. It has published no control scheme either, as Numerama noted again on September 1, 2026. And nobody has played the game: MP1st reported on August 19, 2026 that the July sessions were hands-off, which the invited press bore out when it published on August 27.
